Our industrial sites
SUBEL, the association of Belgian sugar manufacturers, is a key player in representing and defending the interests of the sugar sector in Belgium. Created to unite forces and promote excellence in sugar production, SUBEL today consists of two members: the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise, a member of the Südzucker group, and iscal, a member of the Finasucre group.
With approximately 1,000 direct jobs, the Belgian sugar sector significantly contributes to the local economy, involving a vast network of contractors, farmers, transporters, and suppliers. Together, these actors form an essential value chain for the production and distribution of an indispensable basic product: sugar.
The members of SUBEL produce and market a wide range of sugars and sugar specialties, meeting both the needs of end consumers and the requirements of industrial clients. Whether for domestic use, in the food industry, or in niche products, Belgian sugar is known for its quality, traceability, and adaptation to market needs.
Beyond its role of representation, SUBEL is committed to sustainable and responsible production. We work hand in hand with our partners to address environmental and social challenges while ensuring competitiveness and innovation in our sector.
SUBEL, as the representative of the sugar sector, actively supports research for the improvement of sugar beet and associated cultivation techniques. This is why we invest one million euros per year in the Royal Belgian Institute for Beet Improvement (IRBAB). This research center’s mission is to assist beet growers by providing them with detailed information on all aspects of beet cultivation in Belgium.
