Two Belgian actors, two international groups
The Raffinerie Tirlemontoise
Founded in 1836, the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise (RT) combines tradition and innovation to produce high-quality sugar from Belgian sugar beets.
As a sustainable agri-food company, RT continuously invests in more responsible technologies and processes, while limiting waste by valorizing its by-products, particularly in agriculture.
With more than 600 employees at 6 sites in Belgium and the Netherlands, RT is a major player in the sugar sector, offering products to both industrial clients and consumers under the brands Sucres de Tirlemont and Candico.
Sudzücker
Since 1989, the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise has been part of the Südzucker AG group, a major player in the European agri-food industry.
As a leader in integrated plant-based solutions for food, energy, and other applications, Südzucker works for a more livable, healthy, and sustainable world. With nearly 19,000 employees, the group is active in several sectors, including sugar, specialized products, starch, fruit preparations, and bioethanol. Its ambition: to be the reference partner for innovative plant-based solutions and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
In Belgium, in addition to sugar and the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise, Südzucker is active through Beneo, a producer of natural dietary fibers from chicory and rice ingredients, as well as BioWanze, a leader in sustainable bioethanol production.
The iscal group
Iscal, present at three sites in the Benelux, produces various types of sugar, from crystal to powdered sugar and decorative granules. The main office is located in Fontenoy, near Tournai.
Built in 1993, this sugar factory is the newest in Europe, with a processing capacity of 12,000 tons of beets per day and exceptional energy performance, making it one of the most efficient factories in Europe.
The Frasnes site, acquired in 1988, is used to transform crystal sugar into powdered sugar. Alldra, founded in 1930, produces high-quality confectionery and toppings for international food companies.
Finasucre
Finasucre is a Belgian family business founded in 1929, specializing in the sugar industry. The group produces and markets raw, white, and refined sugar from sugarcane and sugar beet, intended for industrial clients and retailers.
Finasucre is also involved in the production of nuts, honey, and sugar-derived products such as lactic acid and biodegradable plastics.
With factories in Europe, America, Asia, and Oceania, Finasucre employs nearly 3,000 people and continues to diversify its activities.
